In Ottilie Mason’s diverse body of work, high and low art forms, cross-media techniques, social, spiritual and political ideas, pan-cultural and historical references, universal themes, humour, surprise and melancholy are processed through her divine imagination to create a breadth of original work characterized by elegance, wonder and levity.
As a theatre designer, Ottilie’s work has been recognized with four Dora Mavor Moore award nominations for outstanding set and lighting design, as a fine artist she has been featured in Toronto Life Magazine, and as a performer she has been seen on the stages of the Opera House, the Bluma Appel, the Tarragon, and the Centaur theatres, as well as in New York City, collaborating in performance art extravaganzas with artists such as Laura Kikauka and Kenny Scharf. She has created elaborate costume pieces for exhibitions and theatre, as well as for Margot Kidder in Patricia Rozema’s film, The White Room. As a craft-stylist, she has been creating original works of beauty and simplicity for Chatelaine Magazine, among others.
Currently, Ottilie has returned to her origins in fine art and is working on a series of large scale paintings entitled, The Tender Trap.
