Elemental

The Elemental is explored differently through the Formal, the Critical and the Essential. These abstracted ice imprints on wood deal with the ways in which nature acts upon surfaces and objects, resulting in beautiful, random, and ambiguous “mistakes” which become provocative and allusive visual documents.
These works however abstracted are nonetheless familiar to our visceral experience and recognition of the world: ephemeral frost patterns become lush palm fronds, or surreal chinoiserie wallpaper. These images as such have the potential to challenge our perception and ways of seeing and understanding visual language. They can expand the imagination; play on our sense of wonder and to connect us to the idea of commonality in nature.
